Many people around us are in a state
of depression because of family issues, career issues, health issues, etc. If you
want to help someone who is suffering from this ailment, here are a few easy
steps:

Identify
and acknowledge
The first step
that needs to be done is to identify symptoms of depression in a person. This
will be easy as people under depression usually seem unhappy and unmotivated.
Once you know that the person is depressed, identify the degree to the same and
motivate the person to take medical help in case of need. You must also
acknowledge the person that you know he is feeling bad about something and
motivate him to share the same.

Tell
them that people love you
Tell the person that his family and friends
care for him and love him. This will put him at ease. Make comforting
statements so that the person confides in you and feels comfortable in your
company.
3.
Give
motivating examples
Once you know the reason for his
depression, quote examples that make him feel that this will pass. For example
if the person is depressed because of lack of job, tell him that another friend
of you in the same situation recently got a job.
4.
Try
and arrange activities that the person enjoys
Identify the activities that the person
likes by enquiring from family or relatives and arrange them for him to divert
his mind.
5.
Do not
give up
It is sometimes difficult
and frustrating to deal with such persons, but the key is to never give up.
Though serious depression requires
medical treatment, but support of family and friends is always helpful.
